The shapes of nature repeat....this is a revelation to me. I see a commonality in the landscapes, a unity in the variety. Rock or ice, carved by wind & water, I reccognize the patterns, they are familiar. I am not a "stranger". Behind the camera I frame a slice of time & place. Trust my intuiton / imagination and click the shutter when subject, composition, light and moment feels all right.
My pictures are taken with traditional film cameras, 35mm, 6x7,6x12, 6x17, 4x5 plus Digital SLR
With this info page I want to take the opportunity to thank people who have helped and inspired me. My old shipmate wildlife painter Keith Schackleton. Your soaring seabirds and penguins are my inspiration. Olle Carlsson for friendship. Together we have produced 3 books. Captains Lennart Hedlund, Leif Skog,, Oliver Kruess, Karl Ulrich Lampe, first officer Magnus "Kojak" and expedition leader Bud Lehnausen. Many images could not have been taken without your help gentlemen, thank you ! I want to thank the crew and staff on National Geograpic Explorer for filling my belly with great food and my heart with laughter, for nourishing my body and spirit the way only good friends and shipmates can. My late wife J, the love of my life, who patiently sorted & placed each picture in order on the floor of our living room ! Robert Holm whose wonderful master skill have allowed my prints and website to be realized.
Thank you ! Stefan Lundgren 2008.
The dramatic images of Arctic and Antarctica you find here are seasoned with photographs of American Soutwest, but it is the stuningly stylish images of penguins that steal your heart. That is why I went to the Antarctic gallery first. After selecting one-I picked "Full Moon over Tabular icberg" surley the Antarctic equivalent of Adam's "Moonrise,Hermandeez" Heading North, there are fewer images, but they are spectacular, showing polar bears at home in their natural enviroments. Getting too cold ? Head to the South West and warm up with stately, colurful images of Monument Vally and other iconic ares of the American West. No matter where he takes you, Lundgren's photographs are breathtaking and you will see those chilly parts of the world like you've never seen them before.
